Visa & entry
Indian passport holders need a Georgian e-visa, applied for online at the official site evisa.gov.ge, unless they hold a valid (unexpired) visa or residence permit from the USA, UK, a Schengen country or certain other countries, in which case they can enter without a Georgian visa for up to 90 days in any 180. The e-visa allows up to 30 days and costs about USD 35 in total, including the consular fee, service fee and an online identity check; processing usually takes 5–7 working days, so apply at least 2 weeks before travel. There is no visa on arrival for Indians. From 1 January 2026, every foreign visitor must carry health and accident insurance valid in Georgia for the whole stay, with cover of at least 30,000 GEL (about USD 11,000), in English or Georgian; border officers can refuse entry without it. Your passport should be valid for at least 6 months from arrival.
Good to know
This tour covers a lot of ground: Days 4 and 7 each have about 6 hours on the road. We use a comfortable private vehicle and stop every 1.5–2 hours.
Pack for two climates: a warm jacket for Kazbegi (5–12°C on summer evenings) and summer clothes and swimwear for Batumi.
Georgia uses the lari (GEL). Cards work in Tbilisi and Batumi; carry cash for entry fees, markets and the mountains.
Tbilisi and Batumi have Indian restaurants. Elsewhere, vegetarian Georgian dishes such as khachapuri, lobio (bean stew), pkhali and mushroom dishes are easy to find.
Churches require modest dress: women cover their heads and wear skirts; men should not wear shorts.
In winter the Jvari Pass to Kazbegi can close after heavy snow; we then swap the Kazbegi night for an extra night in Tbilisi or Gudauri.
Questions travellers ask
Is this trip too much travelling for seniors?
Two days have about 6 hours of driving, with breaks. Active seniors usually manage well. If you prefer a slower pace, we can add a night in Kutaisi or take the train from Batumi to Tbilisi.
Can we swim in the Black Sea at Batumi?
Yes, from about June to September. The beach is pebbly, so beach shoes help. Outside summer, Batumi is still pleasant for walks and the Botanical Garden.
Do Indians need a visa for Georgia?
Yes, usually an e-visa applied for online, about USD 35, taking 5–7 working days. Holders of a valid US, UK or Schengen visa or residence permit can enter without one. Travel insurance is compulsory for entry.
Is vegetarian food available?
Yes. Georgian food has many vegetarian dishes, and Tbilisi and Batumi have Indian restaurants. Tell us if you need Jain food, and we will brief the hotels for breakfast.
Are flights included?
No. Flights to and from Tbilisi are quoted separately. Options include direct IndiGo flights from Delhi when operating, or one-stop flights via Dubai, Sharjah, Doha or Istanbul.
