Visa & entry
Indian passport holders need a Georgian e-visa, applied for online at the official site evisa.gov.ge, unless they hold a valid (unexpired) visa or residence permit from the USA, UK, a Schengen country or certain other countries, in which case they can enter without a Georgian visa for up to 90 days in any 180. The e-visa allows up to 30 days and costs about USD 35 in total, including the consular fee, service fee and an online identity check; processing usually takes 5–7 working days, so apply at least 2 weeks before travel. There is no visa on arrival for Indians. From 1 January 2026, every foreign visitor must carry health and accident insurance valid in Georgia for the whole stay, with cover of at least 30,000 GEL (about USD 11,000), in English or Georgian; border officers can refuse entry without it. Your passport should be valid for at least 6 months from arrival.
Good to know
Georgian food is friendly to vegetarians: cheese breads, bean stew (lobio), aubergine and walnut rolls, vegetable pkhali, mushroom dishes and fresh salads. Tell us in advance if you eat no eggs or follow a Jain diet, as some breads use egg.
Wine tastings are small pours, and non-drinkers are always offered grape juice or tea. You can enjoy this trip fully without drinking alcohol.
Georgian wines are mostly dry. Amber (orange) qvevri wines are tannic and earthy; semi-sweet reds like Kindzmarauli are easier for beginners.
Indian customs allow up to 2 litres of alcohol duty-free per adult. Pack bottles in checked luggage with bubble wrap or wine sleeves.
Georgia uses the lari (GEL). Cards work in Tbilisi; carry cash for the bazaar, small wineries and village shops.
Women should carry a headscarf for churches and monasteries, including Alaverdi and Bodbe.
Questions travellers ask
We are vegetarian. Will the cooking class work for us?
Yes. Khachapuri is a cheese bread, and khinkali can be made with mushroom, potato or cheese fillings. Tell us at booking, and we will brief the host family. Jain or eggless needs can also be arranged with notice.
We don't drink alcohol. Is this trip still for us?
Yes. Half the trip is about food, bread, cheese and markets. At wineries you see how qvevri wine is made and are offered grape juice and churchkhela instead.
Do Indians need a visa for Georgia?
Yes, usually an e-visa applied for online, about USD 35, taking 5–7 working days. Holders of a valid US, UK or Schengen visa or residence permit can enter without one. Travel insurance is compulsory for entry.
How much wine can we bring back to India?
Indian customs allow up to 2 litres of alcohol per adult duty-free. Pack bottles well in checked luggage; they are not allowed in cabin bags.
Are flights included?
No. Flights to and from Tbilisi are quoted separately. Options include direct IndiGo flights from Delhi when operating, or one-stop flights via Dubai, Sharjah, Doha or Istanbul.
