In the afternoon, visit Aina Mahal, an 18th-century palace with mirror work, and the Italian-Gothic Prag Mahal next to it (Aina Mahal usually closes one day a week, often Saturday, so check before going; entry and camera fees paid locally). Kalo Dungar and the Banni villages · Evening on the Rann — After breakfast, drive to Kalo Dungar (about 45 km, 1–1.5 hours), the highest point in Kutch at about 460 m, for a wide view over the Rann towards the border; the Dattatreya temple at the top is known for feeding jackals in the evening. On the way back, stop at Hodka or Gandhi Nu Gam to see Banni embroidery and bhunga houses, and buy directly from artisans if you wish. In the evening, go back to…

Good to know
The salt flats are white and dry mainly from November to February. Rann Utsav dates are announced each year; full-moon nights sell out early, so book well ahead.
Days are warm (25–30 °C) but nights in the desert can drop to 5–10 °C in December and January. Pack a warm jacket.
The salt is bright in the sun, so carry sunglasses, sunscreen and a cap. Wear shoes you do not mind getting salty.
The White Rann is close to the India–Pakistan border, so photography is restricted near BSF posts and some roads are closed to tourists.
Kutch food is mostly vegetarian and Gujarati, and many places serve no alcohol, as Gujarat has prohibition.
Carry cash for craft purchases in villages; UPI works in most places, but the network can be weak near the Rann.
Questions travellers ask
Is the Rann Utsav Tent City included?
No. The base price uses a resort or bhunga cottage near Dhordo. The Tent City can replace it for both nights at extra cost, with all meals and its cultural programme; prices rise on full-moon and festival dates.
When is the best time to see the White Rann?
November to February. Near a full moon the salt flats glow at night, and those dates are the most popular. Outside this season, the Rann may be wet or very hot.
Do we need a permit?
Yes. Every visitor needs a White Rann entry permit, issued at Bhirandiyara or online, with a photo ID. We include the permit fee and arrange it for you.
Can we add Dholavira or Mandvi beach?
Yes. Dholavira, the Harappan site, is a long day from Dhordo, and Mandvi beach is about 1 hour from Bhuj. Each needs one extra day, which we can add on request.
How do we reach Bhuj from Andhra Pradesh?
Bhuj has flights from Mumbai, and trains from Ahmedabad and Mumbai. You can also fly to Ahmedabad and take a train or drive (about 330 km, 6 hours) at extra cost; we can quote it.
