Day-by-day itinerary
Chandigarh to Shimla · Ridge and Mall Road — Our driver picks you up in the morning at Chandigarh airport or railway station and drives you to Shimla via Parwanoo and Solan, about 115 km and 3.5–4 hours. Check in and rest, then spend the evening on the Ridge and Mall Road: Christ Church, Scandal Point and Lakkar Bazaar. Cars are not allowed on Mall Road, so there is some uphill walking, or you can use the public lift from Cart Road.
Shimla to Manali along the Beas valley — Start early for a long drive of about 250 km via Sundernagar and Mandi, which takes 8–9 hours with stops. After Mandi, the road follows the Beas river past Pandoh Dam and through the Aut tunnel into the Kullu valley. Stop for lunch and at the Kullu shawl outlets. River rafting near Kullu is optional and paid directly, and it does not run in the monsoon. Reach Manali by evening and check in.
Solang Valley · Hadimba Temple · Old Manali — In the morning, drive to Solang Valley, about 14 km and 30–40 minutes. Paragliding, the ropeway, zorbing and winter snow activities are all optional and paid on the spot. If you would like to see the Atal Tunnel and Sissu instead, it can be arranged at extra cost, depending on road conditions. In the afternoon, visit Hadimba Devi Temple in its cedar forest, Manu Temple, the cafés of Old Manali…
Manali to Dharamshala via Baijnath — After breakfast, drive to Dharamshala via Mandi and Joginder Nagar, about 235 km and 7–8 hours. On the way, stop at the 13th-century Baijnath Shiva temple, one of the oldest stone temples in Himachal, with views of the Dhauladhar range. Arrive in Dharamshala by evening and check in to your hotel in Dharamshala or McLeodganj.
McLeodganj sightseeing · Drive to Dalhousie — In the morning, visit the Dalai Lama Temple complex (Tsuglagkhang) and the Namgyal Monastery in McLeodganj, then Bhagsunag temple and the short walk to Bhagsu waterfall (about 20 minutes each way). Have lunch at one of McLeodganj's Tibetan cafés. In the afternoon, drive to Dalhousie, about 120 km and 4 hours. Check in and spend a quiet evening at your hotel.
Khajjiar and Dalhousie — After breakfast, drive to Khajjiar, about 22 km and 1 hour, a wide meadow with a small lake, surrounded by deodar forest. Horse rides, zorbing and short paragliding flights are optional and paid directly. On the way back, stop at the Kalatop wildlife sanctuary area for a forest walk. In the evening, walk around Dalhousie's Gandhi Chowk and Subhash Chowk and see St John's Church.
Dalhousie to Pathankot · Departure — After breakfast, check out and drive to Pathankot, about 80 km and 2.5–3 hours. You will be dropped at Pathankot railway station (Pathankot Cantt or Chakki Bank) or Pathankot airport. Pathankot has trains to Delhi and onward, and limited flights. If you prefer to fly out of Amritsar (about 200 km, 4–5 hours), a drop there can be arranged at extra cost.

Good to know
Days 2 and 4 are long road days of 7–9 hours on winding hill roads. Carry motion-sickness tablets if needed, and expect the car's AC to be switched off on steep climbs.
Shimla, Manali and Dalhousie are cold from November to February, with snow possible in Manali, Dalhousie and Khajjiar. Pack warm layers, gloves and good walking shoes.
In July and August, monsoon landslides can block the Kiratpur–Manali highway and the Mandi–Dharamshala road for hours. Paragliding and rafting also stop in the monsoon.
The Dalai Lama's public teachings in McLeodganj draw large crowds and fill hotels. If your dates match a teaching, book early.
Mobile signal and UPI work in all four towns. Carry some cash for ponies, activities and small shops.
Vegetarian food is easy to find in all towns, and Shimla and Manali have restaurants serving South Indian dishes.
Questions travellers ask
Can the tour start and end in Delhi?
Yes. Most couples take a morning train or a short flight to Chandigarh and a train back from Pathankot. A Delhi pickup and drop by car adds about 5–6 hours of driving at each end, which we can quote separately.
Is a candlelight dinner or room decoration included?
Not in the base price. We can add a flower bed decoration, a cake or a candlelight dinner at any of the hotels at extra cost.
Will we see snow?
From December to February there is usually snow at Solang, and often at Dalhousie and Khajjiar. From March to May, snow is usually found higher up beyond Solang or at Sissu.
Is Rohtang Pass included?
No. Rohtang needs a limited online permit and is closed on Tuesdays. We can add a Rohtang or Atal Tunnel–Sissu excursion on Day 3 at extra cost, subject to permit and weather.
Are flights included?
No. The price covers the car tour from Chandigarh to Pathankot. We can quote flights or trains from Hyderabad or Vijayawada separately.
