Highlights

Day-by-day itinerary

  1. Arrive Hubballi · drive to Hampi · Hemakuta Hill sunset — Our driver meets you at Hubballi airport for the drive to Hampi (about 165 km, 3–3.5 hours); if you come by train, we pick you up at Hosapete (Hospet) station instead, about 13 km from Hampi. After check-in and lunch (on your own), visit the Virupaksha Temple, dedicated to Lord Shiva and still in daily worship; footwear is left outside and modest clothing is expected. Walk up Hemakuta Hill next…
  2. Full day in Hampi · Vittala Temple and Royal Enclosure — Start early to avoid the midday heat. Visit the Vittala Temple, reached by a short battery-vehicle ride from the parking (paid locally), to see the stone chariot and the carved pillars that ring when tapped (touching is no longer allowed). Continue to the Royal Enclosure with the Mahanavami Dibba and the stepped tank, the Queen's Bath, the Hazara Rama temple, and the Lotus Mahal, Zenana…
  3. Optional coracle ride · drive to Hubballi · departure — After breakfast, you can take a short coracle ride on the Tungabhadra river near Hampi (optional, paid locally; it depends on the season and water level). Then check out and drive to Hubballi airport (about 165 km, 3–3.5 hours) or to Hosapete station for your train. A flight after about 2 pm works best.

No visa needed. Carry a government photo ID (Aadhaar, passport, driving licence or voter ID) for every traveller, because hotels ask for it at check-in.

Good to know

Questions travellers ask

Should we fly to Hubballi or come by train?

Either works. Hubballi airport is about 3–3.5 hours away. Hosapete station is only 30 minutes from Hampi, so the train is often easier from Andhra Pradesh; we pick you up at whichever you choose.

Is there a lot of walking?

Yes, about 4–6 km on Day 2, spread across several sites. Elderly travellers can see the main monuments from the car parks and use the battery vehicle at Vittala.

Can we add Badami, Aihole and Pattadakal?

Yes. Those Chalukya temples are 3 hours from Hampi and need one more night. Ask us for the extended plan.

Do we need a guide?

It is optional but recommended. Licensed guides are available at the main sites and are paid locally.
