Day-by-day itinerary
Arrive Cochin · Fort Kochi and Kathakali — Our driver meets you at Cochin International Airport and takes you to your hotel in Kochi (about 1–1.5 hours, depending on traffic). After check-in and rest, visit Fort Kochi in the afternoon: the Chinese fishing nets, St. Francis Church, Santa Cruz Basilica and the antique shops of Jew Town (Mattancherry Palace and the synagogue have their own timings and closing days). In the evening, attend…
Kochi to Munnar · waterfalls and tea estates — After breakfast, drive to Munnar (about 130 km, 4–4.5 hours) through the Western Ghats. On the way, stop at the Cheeyappara and Valara waterfalls, which are fullest after the monsoon. The last stretch climbs through tea estates and spice gardens. Check in at your hotel and spend the evening at leisure; Munnar evenings are cool, so keep a light jacket handy.
Munnar sightseeing · Tea Museum and Mattupetty — A full day in Munnar with your vehicle. In the morning, visit Eravikulam National Park (Rajamalai) to see the Nilgiri tahr; the park usually closes for the tahr calving season around February–March, and entry and park bus tickets are paid on the spot. Next, visit the Tea Museum, included in your package, to see how tea is processed from leaf to packet. In the afternoon, drive out to Mattupetty…
Munnar to Thekkady · spice plantation and Ayurveda — After breakfast, drive to Thekkady (about 90–110 km, 3.5–4 hours) through cardamom hill country. In the afternoon, take the included guided walk through a spice plantation, where you will see pepper, cardamom, cinnamon, clove and nutmeg growing. Later, enjoy the included Ayurvedic welcome massage. Optional evening activities, all paid locally, include a Kalaripayattu martial-arts show, an…
Thekkady to Alleppey · houseboat on the backwaters — If you wish, take an early Periyar lake boat ride (optional; tickets are limited, so book in advance, and they are paid separately). Then drive to Alleppey (about 140 km, 4 hours) and board your private houseboat around noon. Lunch is served on board as the boat cruises through palm-lined canals, paddy fields and village stretches towards Vembanad Lake. Houseboats stop cruising and anchor for…

Good to know
Munnar is cool all year (often 12–20 °C in winter), so pack a light jacket. The coast and the backwaters are warm and humid.
The Munnar–Thekkady and Thekkady–Alleppey roads are hilly and winding. Carry motion-sickness tablets if anyone in your family needs them.
Eravikulam National Park usually closes for some weeks around February–March during the Nilgiri tahr calving season.
Periyar boat tickets are limited and sell out early, especially on weekends and holidays. Book online as soon as your dates are fixed.
The houseboat chef can cook vegetarian or Andhra-style mild food if you tell us in advance. Most houseboats run the AC mainly at night.
UPI and cards work in hotels and most shops. Keep some cash for entry tickets, the plantation shop and tips.
Questions travellers ask
Is the houseboat private, or shared with other guests?
It is a private houseboat for your group, with its own crew of a driver and a cook. The number of bedrooms depends on how many of you are travelling.
Can we get vegetarian or Telugu-style food?
Yes. Hotels in Munnar and Thekkady serve North and South Indian vegetarian food, and the houseboat cook will prepare vegetarian meals with less spice or more spice if you tell us your preference when booking.
Is this trip suitable for elderly parents and small children?
Yes. Most of the trip is by private vehicle with little walking. The drives between hill stations take 3.5–4.5 hours, so we plan comfortable breaks along the way.
Can we see Kumarakom on this trip?
The houseboat cruise covers Vembanad Lake, the same lake Kumarakom is on. A separate night at Kumarakom would need an extra day, which we can add on request.
Does the price include flights?
No. The package starts and ends at Kochi airport. We can book flights from Vijayawada or Hyderabad separately and send you a combined quote.
