Day-by-day itinerary
Arrive Leh · Full rest to acclimatise — Our driver meets you at Leh airport (3,500 m) and takes you to your hotel, about 15 minutes away. Today is for complete rest: sleep, drink 3–4 litres of water and avoid climbing stairs quickly, alcohol and smoking. This first day matters more than any sightseeing, because it lets your body adjust to the thin air. If you feel well in the evening, take a short, slow walk to Leh Main Bazaar.
Leh sightseeing · Sham valley · Shanti Stupa — After breakfast, drive west along the Srinagar highway to the Hall of Fame army museum, Gurudwara Pathar Sahib, Magnetic Hill and the confluence of the Indus and Zanskar rivers at Nimmu, about 35 km from Leh. Rafting at the confluence is optional and paid directly. In the afternoon, visit Leh Palace (ASI ticket) and finish at Shanti Stupa for the evening view over Leh. Our team will collect your…
Leh to Nubra Valley over Khardung La — After breakfast, drive to Nubra Valley over Khardung La (about 5,359 m), around 125 km and 4–5 hours. Stay at the top for only 15–20 minutes. Descend to Diskit Monastery and its 32 m Maitreya Buddha, then continue to Hunder. In the late afternoon, walk on the sand dunes; a double-humped Bactrian camel ride is optional and paid directly. Overnight in a camp or hotel in Hunder.
Nubra Valley to Pangong Lake via the Shyok river road — Leave after an early breakfast for Pangong Lake via Agham and Durbuk along the Shyok river, about 160 km and 6–7 hours. The road is rough in places and can close after rain or landslides; if so, we go back via Leh and Chang La, which takes longer. Reach Pangong (about 4,250 m) by afternoon. The lake is 134 km long, and its colour changes from turquoise to deep blue through the day. Nights here…
Pangong Lake to Leh over Chang La · Thiksey — See the lake in the early morning light, then drive back to Leh over Chang La (about 5,360 m), around 160 km and 5–6 hours. Before Leh, stop at Thiksey Monastery, with its two-storey Maitreya Buddha (small entry fee), and Shey Palace. Check in at Leh by late afternoon and rest.
Hemis Monastery · Leh market — After breakfast, drive to Hemis Monastery, the largest and richest monastery in Ladakh, about 45 km and 1 hour from Leh. The museum has a separate entry fee. On the way back, stop at Stakna Monastery on its rock above the Indus or at Sindhu Ghat. The afternoon is free for shopping in Leh Main Bazaar and the Tibetan market.
Departure from Leh — After breakfast, you will be dropped at Leh airport. Most flights leave Leh in the morning, because afternoon winds affect flying, so the drop may be early. Allow 2 hours for security checks before your flight.

Good to know
Altitude sickness is the main risk in Ladakh. Rest fully on Day 1, drink plenty of water, avoid alcohol and smoking, and tell us at once about a headache, breathlessness or vomiting. Many doctors suggest Diamox (acetazolamide); ask your own doctor before taking it.
People with heart, lung or blood pressure problems, pregnant women and infants should consult a doctor before booking. Khardung La, Chang La and Pangong are above 4,200 m.
Pack warm layers even in summer: days can be 20–25 °C in Leh but near 0 °C at night at Pangong and on the passes. Sunglasses, sunscreen and lip balm are essential.
Only postpaid mobile connections work in Ladakh. Jio, Airtel and BSNL postpaid work in Leh; signal in Nubra and Pangong is limited.
Carry enough cash. ATMs in Leh can run out, and camps may not accept cards.
Vegetarian food is easy to find in Leh, and camps in Nubra and Pangong serve simple vegetarian dal, rice, roti and sabzi.
Questions travellers ask
Will we get altitude sickness?
Mild symptoms such as a headache or poor sleep on the first night are common. That is why Day 1 is kept fully free. Drink water, move slowly, and tell your driver or our team if symptoms get worse; the cure is rest or going lower.
Can elderly parents or small children do this trip?
Healthy seniors often do this trip, but please check with your doctor first. For children under 5 and anyone with heart or breathing problems, we suggest avoiding the Pangong night and keeping to Leh and Nubra.
Do we need a permit?
Yes, Indian citizens need an online permit with an environment fee for Nubra and Pangong. Our team applies for it using your ID details, and the fee is paid at cost.
Are flights included?
No. The price is for the land package from Leh airport. We can quote flights from Hyderabad, Vijayawada or your city via Delhi separately; morning flights to Leh are the most reliable.
Is food included at Nubra and Pangong?
Breakfast is included every day. Dinner at the Nubra and Pangong camps is usually taken there because there are few other options, and can be added to the package as a supplement.
