Day-by-day itinerary
Arrive Pune · Bhimashankar Jyotirlinga — Please arrive at Pune airport or railway station by about 9 am. Our driver drives you about 110 km to Bhimashankar (3–3.5 hours on hill roads), where the temple sits in a forest reserve in the Sahyadri range at the source of the Bhima river. From the parking area there are about 250 steps down to the temple, and the climb back takes 20–30 minutes. After darshan, return to Pune for the night…
Pune to Nashik · Panchavati — After breakfast, drive about 210 km to Nashik (5–5.5 hours). In the afternoon, visit Panchavati, where Lord Rama, Sita and Lakshmana are believed to have lived during their exile: Ramkund on the Godavari, Kalaram Temple and Sita Gufa. Nashik is one of the four cities that host the Kumbh Mela.
Trimbakeshwar Jyotirlinga · Drive to Shirdi — Leave early and drive about 30 km to Trimbakeshwar (45 minutes) for darshan; the lingam here has three small faces representing Brahma, Vishnu and Shiva, and queues are shortest early in the morning. Paid quick darshan is usually available and is not included, and pujas such as Narayan Nagbali are done here only by appointment with local priests. See Kushavarta Kund, the traditional source of…
Shirdi Sai Baba darshan · Shani Shingnapur — Have darshan at the Samadhi Mandir early in the morning, then visit Dwarkamai, Chavadi, Gurusthan and Lendi Baug, the places linked to Sai Baba's life. After breakfast, drive about 70 km to Shani Shingnapur (about 1.5 hours each way), the village where houses traditionally have no doors because of faith in Lord Shani. Return to Shirdi by afternoon and attend the evening aarti if you wish.
Shirdi to Grishneshwar · Ellora caves · Chhatrapati Sambhajinagar — After breakfast, drive about 110 km to Verul (Ellora) (about 3 hours). Have darshan at Grishneshwar, the twelfth Jyotirlinga; men are usually asked to remove their shirt or vest before entering the sanctum, so wear something easy to change. Then spend 2–3 hours at the Ellora caves next door, a UNESCO World Heritage Site with Buddhist, Hindu and Jain caves and the Kailasa temple carved from a…
Departure from Chhatrapati Sambhajinagar — After breakfast, visit Bibi ka Maqbara if time allows (entry fee extra). We then drop you at Chhatrapati Sambhajinagar (Aurangabad) airport or railway station; the city has direct trains to Hyderabad and Secunderabad.

Good to know
Bhimashankar has about 250 steps between parking and the temple. Palkis are sometimes available for senior citizens at extra cost; tell us in advance.
At Grishneshwar, men are usually asked to enter the sanctum bare-chested. At Trimbakeshwar, entry to the inner sanctum is restricted, and devotees usually see the lingam from a short distance.
Shirdi darshan and aarti passes can be booked on the official Shri Saibaba Sansthan Trust website. Thursdays, Guru Purnima, Ram Navami and Vijayadashami are the busiest days.
Ellora caves are closed on Tuesdays. If day 5 falls on a Tuesday, we see Grishneshwar on day 5 and Ellora on the morning of day 6.
Bhimashankar roads are narrow and foggy in monsoon (June–September). The drive may take longer and we may start earlier.
Questions travellers ask
Can we start from Mumbai instead of Pune?
Yes. Mumbai to Bhimashankar is about 220 km (5–6 hours), so day 1 becomes very long. We suggest arriving in Mumbai a day earlier, or flying into Pune. Ask us for a Mumbai start quote.
Can we add the other two Maharashtra Jyotirlingas?
Yes. Aundha Nagnath (near Hingoli) and Parli Vaijnath (near Beed) are about 200–230 km from Chhatrapati Sambhajinagar and need two extra days. We can build a Pancha Jyotirlinga version on request.
Is Shani Shingnapur open to women?
Yes. Since 2016 women have been allowed to offer oil on the Shani shila platform, as men do. Dress modestly, as in any temple.
Can we do Narayan Nagbali or Kalsarp puja at Trimbakeshwar?
Yes, but these pujas take one to three days and are done only by appointment with local priests (purohits). Tell us early, and we will add the required nights and help you contact a priest.
Is there a dress code at these temples?
There is no strict code at Shirdi, but modest clothing is expected everywhere. At Grishneshwar, men usually remove their shirt to enter the sanctum.
