Day-by-day itinerary
Arrive Kathmandu · Swayambhunath and Durbar Square — Our representative meets you at Tribhuvan International Airport and drives you to your hotel (20–30 minutes). In the afternoon, visit Swayambhunath, the hilltop stupa known as the Monkey Temple (the car can drive close to the top), and Kathmandu Durbar Square with its palace courtyards and the house of the Kumari, the living goddess. The evening is free in Thamel. For a late arrival, these…
Kathmandu to Chitwan · Tharu village and Rapti sunset — After breakfast, drive about 160 km to Sauraha at the edge of Chitwan National Park (5–6 hours, through the Trishuli valley; road works can add time). If you prefer, the 20-minute flight to Bharatpur can be booked at extra cost. After lunch at the resort, take a guided walk through a Tharu village to learn about the region's indigenous people, then watch the sunset from the banks of the Rapti…
Canoe ride · Jungle walk · Elephant Breeding Centre · Jeep safari — In the morning, glide down the Rapti River in a dugout canoe (about 45 minutes), watching for mugger crocodiles, the long-snouted gharial and kingfishers, then take a short guided walk through the forest with a naturalist. Visit the Elephant Breeding Centre, where you can see mother elephants with calves. After lunch, a jeep safari of about 3–4 hours takes you deep into the park through…
Bird-watching walk · Free afternoon · Tharu cultural dance — Start early with a guided bird-watching walk along the Rapti and the community forest, the best time to spot hornbills, peafowl, storks and kingfishers (about 2 hours). The rest of the day is at leisure; good options at extra cost are a longer full-day jeep safari to the lakes in the park's interior, or a visit to Bis Hajari Tal (Twenty Thousand Lakes) wetland. In the evening, watch a Tharu…
Chitwan to Kathmandu · Pashupatinath aarti and Boudhanath — After breakfast, drive back to Kathmandu (5–6 hours). In the late afternoon, walk around the great stupa of Boudhanath, then go to Pashupatinath Temple on the Bagmati for darshan and the evening aarti on the riverbank (around 6 pm). Only Hindus may enter the main temple courtyard; leather items are not allowed inside. Return to the hotel for the night.
Departure from Kathmandu — Breakfast and check-out. If your flight is in the afternoon, there is time for last-minute shopping in Thamel or Asan bazaar. Transfer to Tribhuvan International Airport, about 20–30 minutes away, reaching 3 hours before your international flight.

Visa & entry
No visa needed. Indian citizens enter Nepal with a valid Indian passport or a Voter ID card issued by the Election Commission of India, and airlines accept either for flights to Kathmandu. Aadhaar and PAN cards are not accepted as travel documents for adults. Under Indian government rules, children under 15 and adults over 65 may also travel with a photo ID showing their age (such as Aadhaar, PAN or a driving licence), and travellers aged 15–18 can use an identity certificate from their school principal. Rules at airports can be strict, so we recommend a passport for every traveller, including children.
Good to know
Wear neutral colours (khaki, green, brown) on safaris and walks, and avoid perfume. Carry a cap, sunscreen, binoculars and insect repellent.
Chitwan is hot from April to June (often 35–40°C) and humid in the monsoon. October to March is the most comfortable; early mornings in December–January are foggy and cool, so carry a sweater.
Rhinos are seen on most jeep safaris, but tigers are rarely seen. Keep expectations realistic; the birdlife alone is excellent.
Elephant-back rides are offered by some local operators but are not part of this package; we include the Elephant Breeding Centre visit instead.
Indian rupees are widely accepted in Nepal. Notes of ₹100 and below are always fine; ₹200 and ₹500 notes issued after November 2016 are now allowed up to ₹25,000 per person.
Sauraha and Kathmandu have Indian and vegetarian restaurants, and the resorts serve dal-bhat and North Indian dishes.
Questions travellers ask
Is Chitwan safe for small children?
Yes. Children enjoy the canoe ride, the breeding centre and the jeep safari. On jungle walks, children must stay close to the guide, and very young children may find the 3–4 hour jeep safari long.
Will we see a tiger?
Possibly, but it is rare. Chitwan has a healthy tiger population, but the forest is dense. One-horned rhinos, deer, crocodiles and many birds are seen on almost every trip.
Do Indians need a passport for Nepal?
No visa is needed. Adults can travel on either a passport or a Voter ID card; Aadhaar is not accepted for adults. For children, a passport is the safest option. Share your documents with us and we will check them before you book flights.
Is vegetarian food available in Chitwan?
Yes. Resorts serve vegetarian dal-bhat, North Indian dishes and continental food, and Sauraha has several Indian restaurants.
Can we fly instead of driving to Chitwan?
Yes. Kathmandu to Bharatpur is a 20-minute flight, about 20 minutes from Sauraha. It costs extra and is subject to weather, and we can quote it with your package.
