Visa & entry
Indian passport holders can apply online for Russia's unified e-visa at the official site evisa.kdmid.ru. Since August 2025 it allows a single entry and a stay of up to 30 days, is valid for 120 days from issue, and costs about USD 50 (children under 6 free). A decision usually comes within 4 working days; we suggest applying 2–3 weeks before travel. No invitation letter or hotel voucher is needed. Print the e-visa and carry medical insurance valid in Russia. Your passport must be valid for at least 6 months beyond the visa's end date and have two blank pages. Hotels register your stay with the migration authorities; keep each registration slip. A visa-free scheme for Indian tour groups has been discussed by both governments but was not in force at the time of writing, so plan on the e-visa.
Good to know
Indian Visa and Mastercard cards do not work in Russia, and forex cards usually do not either. Carry enough US dollars or euros in clean notes and change them into roubles in Moscow, as exchange options in Suzdal are limited.
Monasteries and churches have a dress code: women cover their heads and wear skirts or long dresses; men wear long trousers and remove caps inside.
Suzdal is a small, quiet town with no Indian restaurants. Vegetarian dishes such as mushroom soup, potato and cabbage pies, pancakes and salads are easy to find, but carry some Indian snacks or ready meals for comfort.
WhatsApp has been blocked on Russian networks since February 2026. It may still work on Indian roaming, but share your hotel numbers with family.
Roads to the Golden Ring are good, but expect heavy traffic leaving and entering Moscow, especially on Fridays and Sunday evenings.
Carry your passport, visa printout and hotel registration slips at all times; police can ask to see them.
Questions travellers ask
What is the Golden Ring?
It is a circle of old towns north-east of Moscow that were important centres of medieval Russia. This trip covers three of the best: Sergiev Posad, Suzdal and Vladimir, known for their monasteries, kremlins and white-stone churches.
Is vegetarian food available outside Moscow?
Yes, but the choice is simpler: soups, pies, pancakes, potatoes, salads and porridge. Moscow has Indian restaurants. We suggest carrying some Indian ready-to-eat meals for the Suzdal nights.
Is this trip suitable for senior citizens?
Yes. The pace is relaxed, with three nights in one hotel in Suzdal. Walking is mostly on flat paths, apart from the 1.5 km meadow walk to the Church on the Nerl, which you can skip.
How do we get the Russian visa?
Indians can apply for the Russia e-visa online. It costs about USD 50, usually comes within 4 working days and allows up to 30 days in Russia. We help you complete the form.
Are flights included?
No. Flights to and from Moscow are quoted separately. Direct flights operate between Delhi and Moscow; from Andhra Pradesh you would connect via Delhi or a Gulf hub.
