Day-by-day itinerary
Arrive Colombo · Drive to Kandy · Temple of the Tooth — Our chauffeur-guide meets you at Bandaranaike International Airport and drives you to Kandy (about 110 km, 3–3.5 hours). After check-in and rest, drive around Kandy Lake and attend the evening puja at the Temple of the Sacred Tooth Relic (around 6:30 pm). Wear clothing that covers shoulders and knees. For a late-afternoon arrival, the temple visit moves to early tomorrow morning.
Kandy to Nuwara Eliya · Ramboda Falls · Tea factory — After breakfast, drive up into the hills to Nuwara Eliya (about 77 km, 3 hours). The road climbs through tea estates with stops at Ramboda Falls and a tea factory, where you see the leaves being withered, rolled and dried, and taste fresh tea; the factory shop is optional. Check in at Nuwara Eliya, which sits at about 1,900 m and is cool all year. In the evening, walk around the town centre and…
Nuwara Eliya · Seetha Amman Temple · Gregory Lake — In the morning, visit the Seetha Amman Temple at Seetha Eliya, about 15 minutes away, where tradition says Sita was held by Ravana; the temple sits beside a stream with a rock that devotees believe shows Hanuman's footprints. Continue to Hakgala Botanical Garden nearby (allow about 1 hour). In the afternoon, relax at Gregory Lake, where boat rides and pony rides are available at extra cost.…
Train from Nanu Oya to Ella — After breakfast, transfer to Nanu Oya station (about 15 minutes) for the train to Ella, about 3–3.5 hours through tea estates, tunnels and the highest stretch of Sri Lanka's railway near Pattipola. Your vehicle drives ahead with the luggage and meets you at Ella station. If reserved seats are not available on your date, we drive the same route instead (about 2.5 hours). Check in and spend the…
Ella · Nine Arch Bridge · Little Adam's Peak · Ravana Falls — Walk to Nine Arch Bridge in the morning, about 20–30 minutes on foot from the road; trains cross several times a day, and your guide will check the timings so you can see one pass. Later, climb Little Adam's Peak, an easy-to-moderate walk of about 45 minutes each way through tea bushes. In the afternoon, visit Ravana Falls and the Ravana Cave, both linked locally to the Ramayana; the cave…
Ella to Colombo airport · Departure — Leave Ella early after breakfast for the drive to Bandaranaike International Airport (about 280 km, 6–7 hours via Wellawaya and the Southern Expressway, with stops). This day works best with an evening or night flight; please book a flight departing after about 6 pm. For an earlier flight, we can add a night in Colombo or Negombo at extra cost.

Visa & entry
Indian passport holders currently get a free 30-day tourist ETA (Electronic Travel Authorisation) for Sri Lanka. Apply online on the official site eta.gov.lk before travel (approval usually comes by email within 1–2 days); a visa on arrival at Colombo airport is also possible, but the queue is longer. Carry a passport valid for at least 6 months from arrival, your return ticket and hotel details. Sri Lanka renews its free-visa scheme from time to time, so we confirm the current rule when you book.
Good to know
Nuwara Eliya is cold at night (often 10–15°C, lower in January–February). Carry a sweater or jacket; Ella is milder.
Reserved seats on the Ella train sell out fast, especially December–April. Tickets open about 30 days before travel, so confirm your dates early.
Hill roads are winding. Carry motion-sickness tablets if anyone in your family needs them.
Temples require shoulders and knees to be covered and shoes removed. Do not pose with your back to a Buddha statue for photos.
The currency is the Sri Lankan rupee (LKR). Indian rupees are not accepted. Cards work in hotels and larger shops; carry LKR cash for tickets and tips.
Mist and rain can come in quickly in the hills, especially in the afternoon. Keep an umbrella and plan walks in the morning.
Questions travellers ask
Is the Seetha Amman Temple included?
Yes, the visit is part of Day 3. There is no fixed entry ticket; donations are welcome. Many Indian travellers combine it with Ravana Falls in Ella, which is also on this trip.
Can senior citizens do the walks?
Most of the trip is by car. The Nine Arch Bridge and Little Adam's Peak walks are about 30–45 minutes each way on uneven paths, and can be skipped. The train has seats, and the car carries your luggage.
Is it cold? What should we pack?
Nuwara Eliya is cool by day and cold at night, so pack a jacket or sweater, socks and an umbrella. Ella and Kandy are milder. Comfortable walking shoes are a must.
Will we get vegetarian food?
Yes. Hotel buffets have vegetarian dishes, Sri Lankan rice and curry includes several vegetable curries and dal, and Kandy, Nuwara Eliya and Ella have Indian restaurants.
Are flights included?
No. The package starts and ends at Colombo airport. Please book a departure flight after about 6 pm on Day 6. We can quote flights from Hyderabad or Chennai separately.
