Visa & entry
Indian passport holders need a US B1/B2 visitor visa. You fill in the online DS-160 form, pay the application fee and attend an in-person interview at a US consulate in India; most applicants now need an interview, and you should apply in India, where you live. Interview waits are long. In September 2026 the State Department listed waits for a B1/B2 interview of about 12 months in Hyderabad, 11.5 months in Mumbai, 10 months in New Delhi, 7.5 months in Chennai and 6.5 months in Kolkata. Please start the process as early as possible, ideally before fixing your travel dates, and keep checking for earlier slots. The application (MRV) fee is currently USD 185 per person, and a new USD 250 visa integrity fee is being introduced, collected when the visa is issued; we confirm the current fees when you apply. If you already have a US visa, check it is valid for your travel dates. Your passport should be valid for at least 6 months beyond your stay.
Good to know
Since 1 January 2026, visitors who are not US residents pay a surcharge of USD 100 per person (aged 16 and over) on top of the normal entrance fee at the Grand Canyon and ten other busy national parks. It is collected at the park gate.
The South Rim is at about 2,100 metres. It is much cooler than Las Vegas (sometimes freezing at sunrise, even in spring and autumn), and the thin air can make walking tiring. Carry a warm layer and walk slowly.
Stay behind railings at the canyon edge and keep children close; there are long unfenced stretches.
Las Vegas is extremely dry and hot in summer. Drink water often, use sunscreen and avoid long walks in the afternoon.
Tipping is expected: about 15–20% at restaurants and USD 5–10 per person per day for drivers and guides. Las Vegas hotels add a nightly resort fee.
Indian restaurants with vegetarian food are plentiful in Las Vegas but limited near the Grand Canyon; we arrange vegetarian dinners there in advance.
Questions travellers ask
How long does it take to get a US visa?
Interview waits in India are long: in September 2026 they were about 12 months in Hyderabad and 6.5–10 months in other cities. Apply before you plan the trip. We help with the DS-160 form, appointment booking and document checklist.
Is this the Grand Canyon with the glass Skywalk?
No. The Skywalk is at Grand Canyon West, run by the Hualapai tribe. This trip goes to the South Rim, inside the national park, which has the widest views and the classic sunset and sunrise points. Grand Canyon West can be arranged instead on request.
Is there an extra fee at the Grand Canyon?
Yes. Since January 2026 the National Park Service charges non-US residents aged 16 and over a USD 100 surcharge per person. The standard vehicle entrance fee is included; the surcharge is paid at the gate.
Are Las Vegas shows included?
No. The Bellagio fountains and the Fremont Street light show are free and part of the plan. Ticketed shows such as Cirque du Soleil are optional, and we can book them for you.
Is this trip suitable for elderly parents?
Yes. The South Rim viewpoints are next to car parks and the Rim Trail section is paved and mostly flat. The two driving days are about 5 hours each, with regular stops.
