Day-by-day itinerary
Arrive Hanoi · Evening in the Old Quarter — Our representative meets you at Noi Bai International Airport after immigration. The drive to your hotel near the Old Quarter takes about 45 minutes. Check-in is usually from 2 pm, with a welcome drink on arrival. In the evening, walk around Hoan Kiem Lake and the Old Quarter. On Friday to Sunday evenings the streets around the lake are closed to traffic. A water puppet show (about 50 minutes)…
Hanoi city tour — After breakfast, start at Ba Dinh Square and the Ho Chi Minh Mausoleum complex, including the Presidential Palace grounds, Ho Chi Minh's stilt house and the One Pillar Pagoda. The mausoleum opens only in the morning, is closed on Mondays and Fridays and also closes for maintenance for a period each year, so on those days you see the outside only; dress modestly and keep silent inside. Continue…
Ha Long Bay day cruise — Leave Hanoi at about 7:30–8 am for the drive of about 2.5 hours on the expressway to Ha Long. Board a day cruise of about 4–5 hours among the limestone islands, with lunch served on board by the cruise operator. Stops usually include Sung Sot (Surprise) Cave, reached by about 100 steps, and Ti Top island or a kayak or bamboo-boat stop, depending on the cruise route. Drive back to Hanoi, arriving…
Fly to Da Nang · Hoi An Ancient Town at night — After breakfast, transfer to Noi Bai airport for the flight of about 1 hour 20 minutes to Da Nang, then drive about 45 minutes to Hoi An. In the late afternoon, take a guided walk through the Ancient Town, a UNESCO World Heritage Site: the Japanese Covered Bridge, an old merchant's house and a Chinese assembly hall, all covered by the Ancient Town ticket. Stay on as the lanterns come on after…
Free day in Hoi An · Optional basket boats or beach — The day is free, with no vehicle or guide booked. Hoi An's tailors can make clothes within 24–48 hours if you order in the morning. You can cycle to An Bang beach (about 4 km) or book an optional half-day trip to the Cam Thanh coconut forest for a round basket-boat ride, a cooking class, or a day trip to Ba Na Hills and the Golden Bridge (about 1.5 hours away).
Marble Mountains · Fly to Ho Chi Minh City · City tour — Check out after breakfast and stop at the Marble Mountains on the way to Da Nang airport. The main peak has caves and pagodas reached by steps, and an elevator covers the first part of the climb at extra cost. Fly about 1 hour 25 minutes to Ho Chi Minh City. In the afternoon, visit the War Remnants Museum, the Central Post Office and the outside of Notre-Dame Cathedral, which has been under…
Cu Chi tunnels · Free afternoon — After breakfast, drive about 1.5–2 hours to the Cu Chi tunnels at Ben Dinh, the network used during the Vietnam War. The guide shows the hidden entrances and traps, and you can crawl through a short section that has been widened for visitors; it is cramped and not for anyone uncomfortable in tight spaces. Return to the city by early afternoon. The rest of the day is free; a Mekong Delta day trip…
Departure from Ho Chi Minh City — Check out by 12 noon, which is the usual hotel checkout time. Tan Son Nhat International Airport is about 30–60 minutes from the city centre depending on traffic. Plan to reach the airport 3 hours before your international flight.

Visa & entry
Indian passport holders need a visa for Vietnam. The easiest option is the e-visa, applied for online only on the official portal evisa.gov.vn. It costs USD 25 for single entry or USD 50 for multiple entry, is valid for up to 90 days, and usually takes 3–5 working days, longer in peak periods. Your passport must be valid for at least 6 months from arrival with 2 blank pages, and the name, passport number and date of birth on the e-visa must exactly match your passport. Print the approved e-visa and carry it with your return ticket and hotel bookings. Avoid unofficial look-alike websites that charge extra.
Good to know
Currency is the Vietnamese dong (VND). Carry US dollars and exchange them in Vietnam, because Indian rupees are not exchanged. Cards work in hotels and malls, but markets and street stalls need cash.
Weather differs by region. Hanoi is cool from December to February (about 12–20°C), while Ho Chi Minh City stays hot all year (about 28–34°C). Central Vietnam, including Hoi An, gets heavy rain and occasional typhoons from about October to December.
Vegetarian food is easy to find if you look for 'chay' (vegetarian) restaurants, which are common because of Buddhist tradition. Hanoi, Hoi An and Ho Chi Minh City also have Indian restaurants. Ask for 'no fish sauce' (không nước mắm) when ordering.
Traffic is mostly motorbikes. Cross the road at a slow, steady pace and do not step back suddenly. Use Grab or hotel taxis rather than unmarked cabs.
Cover shoulders and knees at the Ho Chi Minh Mausoleum, pagodas and temples. Shoes come off in some pagodas.
Power sockets take two-pin plugs (Type A/C, 220V), and most Indian two-pin plugs fit. Drink bottled water only.
Questions travellers ask
Do Indians need a visa for Vietnam?
Yes. Apply for the e-visa online at evisa.gov.vn, which costs USD 25 for single entry and usually takes 3–5 working days. We can help you fill in the form correctly.
Is vegetarian food available in Vietnam?
Yes. Vegetarian 'chay' restaurants are common, and Hanoi, Hoi An and Ho Chi Minh City have Indian restaurants. Hotel breakfasts include bread, eggs, fruit and noodles. For Jain food, tell us at booking.
Are the flights inside Vietnam included?
No. The two domestic flights, Hanoi to Da Nang and Da Nang to Ho Chi Minh City, are quoted separately along with your international flights. You fly into Hanoi and home from Ho Chi Minh City.
Can we stay overnight on Ha Long Bay?
Yes. We can replace the day cruise with an overnight cruise at extra cost. It adds kayaking, a sunset on the bay and a cooking demonstration, and the cabins are comfortable.
Is this trip suitable for seniors?
Yes, at a gentle pace. Sung Sot Cave and Marble Mountains have steps that seniors can skip, and the Cu Chi tunnel crawl is optional. Hanoi's summer heat and Saigon's humidity can be tiring, so we suggest February–April or October–November.
