Visa Fee Exemption for Sri Lanka ETA

As part of its initiative to boost tourism, Sri Lanka has introduced a visa fee exemption for visitors from select countries. The exemption was aimed to encourage more tourists, especially from South Asian, European, and Western countries, to visit Sri Lanka.

The visa fee exemption generally applies to short-term stays for tourism, although eligibility and terms may vary. Here’s what travelers need to know:

  1. Eligibility: The fee exemption applies to citizens of selected countries; these lists are updated periodically. For instance, visitors from India, China, the UK, Australia, and certain European countries may be eligible for this exemption.

  2. Duration: The visa fee waiver is usually for stays of up to 30 days, which can be extended if needed, although extension fees may apply.

  3. Application Process: Even with the fee waiver, travelers are generally required to apply for the ETA. The process remains the same; however, the visa fee is waived at the payment stage.

  4. Validity Period: Sri Lanka’s visa fee exemption policies may have specific validity periods, so check if the waiver is active during your travel dates.

  5. Purpose of Travel: This exemption mainly applies to those visiting for tourism purposes, so business travelers may still need to pay the applicable fees for a Business ETA.
